Mini Offices

These are our 'mini-offices'. We call them 'Our Private Space'. My kids really enjoy working behind these folders.

Our 'Close-up' Snowmen. We painted 'whole' smowmen first, then cropped them to give a close-up look The kids were a bit worried about me cutting part of their snowman off, but in the end, they really liked them.

All so cute in their own way.

An Owl in a Tree - Learning about light & shadow. This took us a couple of days to complete but the outcome was worth the effort. We started by painting the background red, orange & yellow. Then, using our fingers, we painted the tree and the grass in the foreground with black paint. We added the owl on a branch using a fingerprint. We also used our fingers for the moon and the end of a paintbrush handle to dot the stars in the sky and put the eyes on the owl. The kids were extremely proud of the results.

Our boy & girl penguins. Again, an idea 'creatively borrowed' from a pinterest post. The kids loved the torn paper part of this. Tearing the squares seemed to be quite 'zen' for them and it was the quietest it's ever been in my room during Art as they focused on tearing the pieces. I helped them along by drawing the shape of the penguin for them and cutting black and white paper into narrow strips. Tearing the squares from strips of paper made it very 'do-able' for grade 1. I think we're going to try some other torn paper art for Valentines Day and Easter. Stay tuned.

Art - Learning about Kandinsky

I saw something similar to this on a pinterest post. We were learning about Kandinsky so I decided to do my own version. It turned out so great! My kids rocked this! Cutting out the black tree took FOREVER! However, it makes my class look so bright and cheerful I've decided it was worth the effort and I'm going to leave it up now until the end of the year.
